Think Tank Gallery, Vans, and Roscoe's present Drinkin’ Smokin’ & West Coastin’ – A Group Love/Hate Letter to LA

Think Tank Gallery and Roscoe's House of Chicken N Waffles are taking over DTLA with a month of art and events about our hometown, and all the stereotypes that come from it – especially the true ones. It's a reflection on classic Best Coast culture from the '84 Olympics to the Kings/Lakers rivalry, the period when we grew up with our city, and all the great and terrible things that happened in between. The whole thing is loaded up with chicken and waffles, weed, and LA-themed art.

For the blowout opening event, Roscoe's would like to bring DJ Snoopadelic as a special guest to celebrate the realest parts of LA hip hop culture.

Our upcoming opening night already has almost 2,000 RSVPs, on Saturday August 19th.

And as a special treat, we've partnered with West Coast legends Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles for the new show, Drinkin' Smokin' & West Coastin.' The show is a group love/hate letter to the City of Angels, and there are few things we love more than Roscoe's, so the fact that they're building a limited time menu item exclusively for the Think Tank, the WestScoes special, has us hyped.

As part of this collaboration, the perfect way to honor the Best Coast is a guest spot on opening night from DJ Snoopadelic.

This show is about three things: Drinkin,' Smokin,' and West Coastin.' The smokin' aspect will be hosted by none other than the visionary dispensary and immersive 420 entertainment brand ShowGrow. A decked out video lounge in the back will provide gifting suites, experiential cannabis events, supper clubs, and a generally chill area to hang out and watch nostalgic content while bathed in purple light. Events will fill this lounge, curated by Little Face.

ShowGrow and Little Face will curate a gift bag for DJ Snoopadelic featuring the best weed that Cali has to offer.

The morning after opening, we're hosting a wake and bake brunch with Roscoe's and weed mimosas.

We have been speaking to Xzibit's weed company, Brass Knuckles, about a speakeasy event during the month. DJ Snoopadelic is the perfect guest.

Think Tank Gallery is thankful for the support of creative partners like ShowGrow and Roscoe's to help us build out a myriad of the art installations that our favorite artists have pitched us. Think Tank shows always add an immersive factor and it's thanks to these partners and artists that we can keep that tradition alive.

When we were tasked with experience designing a show around oldschool LA stereotypes, the most played out was the traffic joke. So we dove in headfirst and built a bar based on LA transportation. The eye test is the Lagunitas beer menu, the photobooth is a 1992 CA Driver's License (no smiling allowed), and there are ride sharing ads all over the place so you don't drink and drive. El Silencio mezcal and Mixwell are providing the cocktails, and Nomadica is filling out the wine shelves.

There's also an interactive OJ chase racetrack...

We had over 33,000 captive attendees at our last big arts fest (see a recap here), but that show saw hundreds of millions more hits online. We know that content is king. Our content is a reflection of all the art outlined above, but we take an extra step to make sure it can live alone online, too. We've been featured on Tumblr's radar three times with preview content, and we make teasers that stand for themselves.

PREVIEW CONTENT BY DIRECTOR SINZI VELICESCU & DOCU-STYLE VIDEOGRAPHER MARK ESCRIBANO

Sinzi Velicescu art directed a tour around town, picking up work from DS&WC talent in a classic car, capturing each disparate neighborhood of LA in her iconic style and releasing a new video each week. Nice camera on a classic car, good music, panoramic lenses... this series has a feeling to it. And at the end of each video that feeling leads crowds to our show.

MOOD CONTENT FOR DS&WC TEASER CAMPAIGN

Sinzi & Mark used a classic car to roam around LA to four hoods, visiting one artist per video.

A featured DS&WC artist hosted the series, selecting four friends to visit, one per week.

The videos feature interviews, but the b-roll will be video art in itself. Sinzi's surreal cityscapes glorify LA.
